"A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
In our society, it is easy for us to label heroes and put people up on pedestals. We do it constantly with our sports stars, famous actors and actresses, and millionaires. But as Ralph Waldo Emerson says, it's not money that makes a hero, it takes just minutes of going above and beyond what an ordinary man does.
Considering this, choose someone who you see as a hero. It can be someone past or present, famous or not. Open the Discussion Tab on this page, create a "New Post", write the person in the subject line and then explain why this person is your hero. Give me at least three characteristics that make him or her your hero and describe what he or she has done that shows those characteristics.

Type your essay double spaced with 12 point Times New Roman font.
Put name and period number in the header with "Hero Essay" as your title
Each characteristic you explain should be in a separate paragraph with details/stories/examples of how your person has exhibited that characteristic. For example, if I say that my hero is Patrick Swayze, I would explain one characteristic of him is that he's dignified. When he was diagnosed with cancer and went public, he never let the public feel sorry for him. He always stayed strong and kept fighting, even when the prognosis was so poor. I would also explain the details he gave about his battle when he had the interview the Barbara Walters.
Remember, good paragraphs have three specific things
strong topic sentences (tell the characteristic in your first sentence)
details that support the topic sentences to provide proof for your beliefs
at least five sentences
Make sure your introductory paragraph has at least four sentences, with a strong thesis at the end.
Make sure you have five total paragraphs: Introduction, Trait 1 explained, Trait 2 explained, Trait 3 explained, Conclusion.
